My name is Oscar Martinez, and I’m an artist. I paint, but I’m not limited to that medium. I was born and raised in East Los Angeles, California, during the tumultuous 1970s.
The surrounding barrio culture of rasquache life, filtered through Mexican and Roman Catholic cultures, graffiti, and Chicano political awareness, play central roles in the colors, textures and iconography of my art.
